As of March 31st Panther Computers will only provide support and support to Linux, Windows XP, and Windows Vista machines. This means we will no longer provide repair services for machines running DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000. These machines are usually at least 7 years or older and much of the computing world no longer supports or creates software for these machines. The Panther Tuneup cannot be performed on these machines, nor can you get security updates that can ensure a reasonably safe internet experience. In addition to this change we will no longer work on machines with out a legal license sticker on the outside of the machine, unless proof is provided that you have a legal copy of the operating system, or it is a Linux machine that requires no such license. If another cyber guy or friend of a friend upgraded you to XP or Vista as a "favor" Microsoft has the Windows Genuine Advantage (http://www.microsoft.com/Genuine/) program that allows people that were taken advantage of to make their copies legitimate for a small fee. Panther Computers will assist you if you need help. |

Panther Computers will take old computers for recycling in limited quantities. This doesn't include monitors as they are too toxic for us to handle properly - use the other suggestions found in the FAQ What can I do with my old computer. We have begun to disassemble the old computers down to their basic components and recycle them. Small quantities would probably be refused by local scrap yards, but as we accumilate truck loads of the old cases (sheet metal) we will turn it in to reduce what ends up in the landfill. Yes sheet metal (iron based) might only cover (pennies per pound) the gas to take it, but Panther Computers is committed to finding ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle - especially reducing the impact of our industry on the environment. |

Panther Computers has been installing Linux for nearly a year on PCs without legitimate product keys for Microsoft Windows products and on special request. We now officially offer Linux on all Panther PCs either as a cost saving alternative or a feature rich alternative to the Microsoft world. Though we have installed many flavors of Linux, we recommend either Xandros or Ubuntu. Read More for the advantages of each. |
