Why Did You Stop Using Windows Defender & Adaware?

This FAQ is in anticipation of this question of our recent decision to stop using Windows Defender & Adaware on our new systems and in our tune up process.  First the other products we use are more consistantly catching the malware that these two products protect you from.  This means that once we run the other products and clean the malware off the computer, these two products aren't finding any residual bad guys.  This means we are wasting time, adding software to your systems that aren't needed, and increasing the tax on your computer memory and storage space.

Secondly, Adaware has no automation for updates unless you purchasethe full program and Windows Defender is actually still a Beta product.  Being a beta product means it can have bugs, holes, and increase problems as it has not been deemed to be a quality product to be a full release.  We don't wish to continue risking beta software that hasn't proven itself without obvious benefit.  AVG products are doing the job, why risk a beta.

Next, it is my anticipation that Microsoft will make Windows Defender a commercial product requiring you to purchase it in the very near future once the beta testing is done.  It is evident that Microsoft wants to make money from anti-virus and anti-malware products from its now available Live One Care product.  Now I see this as being like selling you a defective tire with your new car (one with holes in it) and then offering to sell you a new one.  Therefore it doesn't sit well with me to have to pay the company that has allowed software defects into their operating system for protection to cover those defects.  Since Grisoft's products have been doing the job for us and we have seen One Live Care sytems fully virused we continue to stand behind the AVG line of products.
