Panther Computers adds Avast Antivirus

Panther Computers is now an authorized reseller for Avast security products. Avast's offerings will compliment the AVG products we already offer as each has unique benefits that fit differing customer needs. We will consult with our buisness clients to help them identify which product is best for their environment. The Panther Tuneup and all new Panther Computers will continue to include AVG, but Avast will be offered as an alternative for an additional fee.
Disk Cleaner now replaces Cleanup!

We are now using Disk Cleaner instead of the 7 year old Cleanup! by Steven Gould. Disk Cleaner is still free, open source, and extensible. Though Cleanup! does a little better job overall, it has some issues that concern us now enough to move.
Seven years is a long time to not update a program, even if it is largely stable and useful. Older programs are susceptible to hacking, which means as time progresses there can be ways to use the pieces of a program to be the launchpad of a hack or virus attack. Steven Gould did a nice job, but has let the product become stale and suspect.
Furthermore, it turned out that Cleanup! knowingly causes problems with Microsoft Office products that rely on the MSO Cache to properly run. After running Cleanup! many users of Office 2003, and some of Office XP and 2007 would be prompted for their Office CD to replenish the MSO Cache in order for Office to start and work. This is increasingly disruptive as many name brand computers come with Office pre installed with no CD to put into the drive to fix the problem. This left users with either borrowing a CD from a friend, buying Microsoft Office again, or moving to the preferred office suite OpenOffice.org.
Disk Cleaner is open source and free. This gives Panther Computers, and you, the flexibility to use its built in extensions capability to enhance its cleaning ability or to directly manipulate the source code to make it a better product. Our intent is to enhance the user interface in the future as the default one is bland and utilitarian. During the code rewrite, if we can enhance the code to be more efficient or improved, we will move to that end.
Previously tuned up PCs in for work will have Cleanup! removed and replaced with Disk Cleaner.
